Colourblind featuring works by Benny Bing

Neighbourhood Studios

Curated by Ashley McKenzie-Barnes
Presented by Calm Collectiv

‘Colourblind’ is an exhibit of boldly coloured compositions that address the ideology of a society that rejects racial discrimination. It encourages viewers to challenge the status quo and appreciate commonalities between a shared humanity.

Benny Bing’s vibrant hues embrace the complexities of race while highlighting the uniqueness amongst us all. He takes pride in shaping the way we view ethnicity, while emphasizing a positive representation of black women in his work. As an artist of colour, he brings life to his own perception of ‘colourblindness’, but also raises the concern of how it denies prejudicial experiences, cultural heritage and individual perspectives.
